Services - Caritas of Austin

Basic Needs Services

A place to live and food to eat are the most basic needs all people require on a daily basis to sustain themselves. When these basic needs are not met, most people cannot address other issues in their lives. Caritas helps people meet these most basic human needs through the following services:

  • Community Kitchen provides hot lunches to more than 450 people each weekday on a no-questions-asked basis.

  • Food Pantry is one of the largest in Central Texas and provides take-home food, fresh produce and personal hygiene items.

  • Resettlement Program helps documented refugees - people who have fled their countries because of a legitimate fear of persecution - establish local residency and acculturate to life in the United States.

  • Community Support Program provides one-time rent and utility assistance, food and clothing vouchers to families suffering a financial crisis.

  • Education Program provides life skills classes, including energy conservation, financial management and personal power.

Self-Sufficiency Services

Caritas offers case management to help individuals and families move toward self-reliance through these long-term programs:

  • Learn & Earn ensures that families living in poverty receive life skills training, as well as one-on-one coaching in the development of a financially self-sufficient lifestyle.

  • Balanced Budget offers financial assistance and personalized budget development for people who have experienced a work-related emergency.

  • ReEntry and Passages provides assistance for homeless single adult individuals who have no dependents living with them. Both programs focus on helping homeless single adults achieve stability in the areas of income, housing and self-care.

  • Refugee Social Services helps refugees with self-sufficiency.

  • Employment Program builds relationships with employers and links prospective employees to jobs through one-on-one assessment, mentoring and coaching.

Caritas will serve more than 95,000 meals this year.
