Housing Assistance

Caritas of Austin’s housing programs serve individuals and families who are currently experiencing homelessness. To access services for our Permanent Supportive Housing, Supportive Services for Veteran Families, or Housing Stability programs, please follow the instructions below.

Caritas participates in a community-wide process called Coordinated Assessment. The goal of Coordinated Assessment is to simplify the application process for people accessing services and to prioritize the most vulnerable people for assistance.

You must complete a Coordinated Assessment in order to be eligible for Caritas' housing programs. One advantage of this process is that once you do so, numerous agencies who use this system will know you need housing assistance and can determine what programs you may qualify for without having to do multiple applications.

Completing a Coordinated Assessment is not a guarantee of services; it’s just the first step. Agencies will contact you directly if and when they are able to serve you. You do not need to contact Coordinated Assessment staff again unless your contact information or housing situation has changed.

To complete the Coordinated Assessment, please contact ONE of the following three agencies:

  • Front Steps (in-person)
    Address: 500 E 7th Street
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 9am – 4pm
    Tuesday: 9am – noon
  • Salvation Army (in-person)
    Address: 501 E 8th Street
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 9am – 4pm
    Tuesday: 9am – 11am & 2pm – 4pm
  • ECHO (phone)
    Phone: 512-234-3630
    Hours: Monday-Friday: 9am – 4pm

The above information reflects the latest community process. Caritas of Austin’s Intake and Assessment phone line is no longer used for Coordinated Assessment. For questions about Coordinated Assessment or other community resources, please contact 2-1-1.
