Caritas of Austin Announces New 2008 Board of Directors

(Austin, TX) –Caritas of Austin proudly elected Sam Gwynne, Executive Editor of Texas Monthly, as the new President of their Board of Directors. Donald Calvin, a partner with Ernst & Young, was also announced as the President-Elect. Both Gwynne and Calvin were members of last year’s Board and bring a vast amount of knowledge, professionalism and dedication to their new positions. New additions to the Caritas Board include: Kerry L. Hall, President of Texas Capital Bank, Joe Lea, a partner at McGinnis, Lochridge & Kilgore, and David Sheldon, a principal at Zydeco Development.

"Caritas is eager to utilize the experience and talents our newest members bring to the Board. We depend on the expertise of these valuable and busy Board volunteers,” said Beth Atherton, Executive Director of Caritas.

The 2008 Caritas of Austin Board of Directors is as follows: Sam Gwynne-President, Donald Calvin-President Elect, Mike Haggerty-Secretary, Caroline Jones-Past President, Sean Adams, Amy Dunham, Denise Francis, Cid Galindo, Kerry L. Hall, Bobby Jenkins, John Lavorato, Joe Lea, Jim McBride, Glenda Owen, David Sheldon, James S. Taylor, Richard D. Villa, Craig Watkins, Rev. Msgr. Richard McCabe-Chair Emeritus, and Beth Atherton, Executive Director.

Since 1964, Caritas has assisted with emergency basic needs such as food, rent and utilities and helped clients learn the skills they need to gain self-sufficiency. This year, Caritas will serve over 20,000 adults and children as Travis County’s largest source of non-governmental assistance for low-income families.
