Caritas of Austin's food services are part of our comprehensive service model to ensure people have their basic needs met on their path toward self-sufficiency. Hunger is an important issue in our community. In Travis County, nearly 20% of households are food insecure, meaning they lack consistent, reliable access to adequate, nutritious food.
Caritas of Austin provides a free, nutritious lunch — no questions asked — to over 300 individuals Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Last year, more than 85,000 meals were provided. Lunch in Caritas’ Community Kitchen may be the only meal someone eats on a given day. The Community Kitchen is primarily volunteer-operated. If you are interested in volunteering, click here.
Caritas of Austin provides take-home groceries to our clients. This year we will provide enough groceries for 43,000 meals. When you are struggling to make ends meet and must choose between putting food on the table and paying the electric bill, weekly groceries from the Caritas Pantry bring great relief to families toward stability.
