ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trots Presents Largest Donation in 22-year History!
On December 19, 2012 the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot achieved another milestone. In addition to a record-breaking 21,000 participants on Thanksgiving Day, ThunderCloud Subs presented $325,000 to Caritas of Austin - the largest check in the event's 22-year history. This check represents 100% of the proceeds from Texas' largest 5-mile race, and brings ThunderCloud Subs' cumulative donation to more than $1.8 million.
"We are honored to receive the continued support of the Austin community for our event and for Caritas of Austin," says Mike Haggerty, co-owner of ThunderCloud Subs. "Every year we work to make this Thanksgiving tradition more successful than the last, and we couldn't make a difference in the lives of people in need without our pariticipants and volunteers."
Last year, ThunderCloud Subs donated $260,000 to Caritas of Austin, and the record-breaking turnout was just one way they were able to increase the donation this year by $65,000. New this year was the addition of a 2013 Honda Accord from Howdy Honda to the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot Raffle. Mellow Johnny's once again donated two prize packs worth $1,250, giving participants additional ways to support Caritas. The proceeds from this year's event will fund a variety of programs, and specifically the $325,000 will help Caritas keep almost 800 families in their homes or serve more than 85,000 meals in the Caritas Community Kitchen.
"This donation from ThunderCloud Subs wis going to make such a significant difference for Caritas of Austin and our efforts to end poverty in Austin," says Jo Kathryn Quinn, Executive Director for Caritas of Austin. "We are proud to be a part of the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot and want to not only thank the ThunderCloud Subs staff and volunteers, but also the particiupants, who continue to make this event a success."

2012 ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot Raffle
On November 28, the winners of the 2012 Turkey Trot Raffle were announced!
The Grand Prize Winner, Nicole Tableriou, recieved the brand new 2013 Honda Accord, generously donated by our friends at Howdy Honda. Nicole was very suprised to recieve the phone call announcing that she had won a brand new car. "I thought it was a joke!," said Nicole.
The First Annual Caritas Client Turkey Trot Team
This year, we were excited to host our very first Caritas Client Turkey Trot Team, a team of 25 Caritas clients who participated in the 22nd Annual ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot!
The team was organized and implemented by Caritas Board member Jennifer Cumberbatch, who rallied excitement among other Austin community members about giving back and future possibilities of service. Luke Martinez, an avid marathon runner and new member of the Caritas of Austin Board of Directors, donated funds that accompanied an award he received from his company, Bank of America, for volunteerism and servant leadership in Austin. Mr. Martinez’s donation to Caritas supported this client effort by paying the entry fees and a portion of the cost for brand new running shoes, provided at a discounted price by Paul Carrozza, CEO of RunTex. Royce Dennis, owner of the fitness and training business, Running With The Angels, Coach for St. Gabriel’s Middle School’s champion track team and Director of Glimmer of Hope Summer Camp helped prepare the team to run.
