Volunteers help Caritas of Austin empower clients toward their life goals through over 25,000 hours of service donated each year. Whether it’s by serving in our Community Kitchen, working with clients directly, assisting with special events, or volunteering in our offices, you are making a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

SERVE IN OUR COMMUNITY KITCHEN
 
Volunteer Shifts: Every Monday – Friday from 9:00am - 1:30pm
Training: Onsite training included in volunteer shift
Age Requirement: Must be 12 years or older
Individual or Group: Both! Most of our individual Community Kitchen volunteers serve one 4-hour shift per week. We are also able to accommodate groups of up to 10 individuals.

Volunteer at Caritas north

In March 2015, Caritas of Austin opened a second location in North Austin. We are looking for volunteers to play important roles in ensuring the success of this location.

Receptionist: Duties include answering the phone and directing visitors to the appropriate department for services. View full job description HERE.

Volunteer Shifts: Monday - Friday; Morning Shift - 8:00am-12:30pm, Afternoon Shift - 12:00-4:45pm (12:00-6:45pm on Tuesdays)
Training: 8 hours of Caritas University training required

Food Pantry Assistant: The Food Pantry Assistant will serve as the pantry worker at Caritas North and will assist families and individuals shopping for groceries and hygiene items. View full job description HERE

Training: 8 hours of Caritas University training required

help with donation pick-ups and deliveries

Throughout the year, Caritas staff need assistance picking up in-kind donations and delivering them to our offices. Deliveries and pick-ups might include dropping of food drive barrels and picking up finished food drive collections, furniture, gift baskets, and other household items.

Volunteer Shifts: Flexible based on your schedule and donor needs; must be willing to use own transportation

Work With Clients Directly
Caritas of Austin has many volunteer opportunities that enable community members to directly impact the lives of clients moving out of poverty and homelessness. Below are examples of these opportunities:
  • Assist refugees in acclimating to life in Austin including help with grocery shopping, navigating the bus system, addressing health needs, and finding a job.
  • Work one-on-one with a disabled, chronically homeless individual as he/she transitions to a new life in permanent supportive housing.
  • Assist low-income families as they move toward self-sufficiency including guidance on effective money management, finding affordable housing, or gaining new employment.
Volunteer Shifts: 8-10 hours a month on a flexible schedule
Training: 7-18 hours of training, depending on volunteer role
Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or older
Individual or Group: This opportunity is best suited for individuals.

Provide administrative support for caritas staff  
Caritas of Austin welcomes volunteers to provide administrative support at the Caritas offices. Volunteer duties can include everything from filing, shredding, data entry, assisting with outreach efforts, or helping prepare for audits.

 

Volunteer Shifts: Shifts are available Monday-Friday from 9am -5pm
Training: Dependent on assignment
Age Requirement: Must be 16 years or older
Individual or Group: This opportunity is best suited for individuals.
